Heavy rainfall would often lead to water entering the basement through the parking ramps, resulting in the flooding of the parking areas. This flooding caused significant distress to the judges, lawyers, and staff who regularly use the parking facilities. In response to this recurring problem, the Supreme Court sought an effective solution to mitigate the impact of floods on its infrastructure.

Tower B

The basement parking areas of the Supreme Court faced flooding due to rainwater entering through the ramps. During the monsoon season or heavy rainfall events, water would flow into the parking spaces, causing disruption to the normal functioning of the court and posing risks to the vehicles parked there. The situation caused inconvenience to the court’s stakeholders, including judges and lawyers, making it imperative to find an efficient, reliable solution to prevent the flooding.

The company proposed the installation of flood barriers at the entrance of the basement ramps. These barriers are designed to be easily deployed when there is a risk of flooding. The flood barriers function by creating a robust, impermeable seal at the ramp entrances, preventing rainwater from entering the basement. When floods are predicted, the barriers can be swiftly put in place, ensuring that the basement remains protected from water damage. This approach allows the Supreme Court to safeguard its facilities without disrupting the day-to-day operations of the court.

The installation of flood barriers at the basement ramp entrances has proven to be an effective solution for preventing flooding at the Supreme Court of India. With the barriers in place, water ingress during heavy rainfall has been successfully blocked, ensuring that the parking areas remain dry and secure. This has alleviated the distress experienced by the judges, lawyers, and other personnel who rely on the basement parking facilities. In total 4 ramp entrances were protected from lengths ranging from 5 – 7 meters and heights of 40 cm.
