Frontier Flood Barriers Safeguards Delhi Metro’s Kashmere Gate Underground Station from flooding

The flood protection intervention was carried out in November 2022, overcoming various complex issues due to the large size of the openings to be protected as well as the constant movement of public. The Flood Barriers were installed at two entrances of Kashmere Gate Metro Station – Gate 3 and Gate 4. During heavy rains, waves created by busses and trucks on the roads reach a height upto 1meter. This water then jumps the steps and can easily destroy the escalators positioned on the road amounting to huge loss of machinery and revenue. Further – this flood water creates havoc on the platforms below.

Engineering staff at the DMRC station understood the requirement well and were helpful in putting up permanent side walls which allowed us to fix the side brackets perfectly. Our teams worked together to position the removable interlocking columns with the support of their contractors.

The intervention was carried out professionally. The close collaboration between Frontier and the Aquastop technical office at Italy, allowed the design of the custom-made solution and the subsequent production of custom-made elements specifically for this project. With removable intermediate columns the entrances retain their wide openings. The Intermediate columns and flood barriers are stored away in the maintenance room when not in use. The products provided are part of the Classic Line which included Flood Barriers, removable intermediate columns, side brackets and floor plates.

The height of the Flood Protection Barriers were 0.8 Meters. Once there is a warning for eminent floods, the barriers along with their intermediate columns can be a deployed in no time. When not in use, the flood barriers along with their interconnection columns can be safely stored in the maintenance rooms.
