Janakpuri West Metro Station Flood Mitigation Case File

Janakpuri West Metro Station Flood Mitigation Case File
Janakpuri Metro Station is an important Delhi Metro station serving the densely populated Janakpuri area and a large volume of daily commuters.
Entrance No. 2 was identified as particularly vulnerable to floodwater ingress during periods of heavy rainfall and waterlogging on the adjoining main road.
Flooding Challenge
When the main road becomes waterlogged, passing buses and cars displace large volumes of water and create sudden waves.
This created a risk to:
- Passenger movement and safety
- Electrical systems
- Station operations
- Critical infrastructure

Flood Protection Solution
To address this recurring risk, Delhi Metro installed Frontier H-Frame Aluminium Flood Barriers at Entrance No. 2.
The system consists of permanently installed side frames with removable aluminium barrier planks. During a flood alert or heavy rainfall, the planks can be rapidly installed and compressed to form a protective barrier across the entrance.
When flood protection is not required, the planks are removed, leaving the entrance completely open for normal passenger movement.
