Anderson Clinic Chennai Mitigation Case File

In 2023, Chennai faced severe flooding that caused widespread damage to infrastructure, property, and personal lives. The heavy monsoon rains left many areas submerged, leading to extensive destruction. Among the affected businesses was Anderson Diagnostics and Labs, a leading diagnostics clinic in Chennai renowned for pioneering medical services in imaging and specialized lab work. The floods caused significant losses, including damage to essential MRI and CT scan equipment. This impact was both a financial blow to the clinic and a disruption to critical medical services for the community.

Recognizing the need for proactive flood protection, the clinic's administration sought specialized solutions to prevent future damage. They enlisted Frontier Flood Barriers India LLP to design and implement protective measures for their facilities.

The project was a collaboration with Madras Grid, an architectural firm specializing in healthcare design. Madras Grid provided expertise in onsite civil work and project execution, ensuring seamless implementation (more about them here).

After evaluating the vulnerabilities of Anderson Diagnostics’ four locations with Madras Grid, we proposed comprehensive flood protection measures. The proposed height of the flood barrier was 1.2 meters. This included installing flood barriers at five key entrances, strategically designed to block floodwaters and safeguard the clinic’s operations in the face of future flooding.

This investment in advanced flood protection measures has greatly enhanced the clinic’s resilience against future flooding. With these barriers in place, the diagnostics clinic is now better equipped to safeguard its valuable assets and critical medical equipment, ensuring the continuity of essential healthcare services even during extreme weather events.
